Position: Forensic Investigator
Location: Lima, PA
Position Type: Part-time
Agency: Delaware County Office of the Medical Examiner
Salary: $20/hour
The Delaware County Office of the Medical Examiner is looking for two part-time Forensic Investigators. This is a grant funded position at a rate of $20.00 an hour for 20 hours a week. Qualifications are below:
Qualifications
- Proof of valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass security background check
- Must submit to a drug test upon hire and random drug testing throughout your employment
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher with major course work in Criminal Justice, Anthropology, Criminology, Mortuary Science, Nursing, Crime Scene Investigation or Medical Terminology
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years related medicolegal work experience
- Work experience can be substituted for education requirement on a year-by-year basis
- Understands basic practice and functions of morgue operations
- Holds diplomate status certification of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigations (D-ABMDI)
Responsibilities Include:
- Receives reports of deaths from physicians and other medical personnel, police, funeral directors, family, or other persons and determines if case is within legal jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner. Prepares written documentation of all reported deaths
- Conducts investigations of deaths including interviewing, compiling reports, visiting scenes of death or injury, and collecting evidence
- Secures physical scientific and pathological evidence at death scenes
- Processes scene photography
- Transports or coordinates transport of decedent from the scene of death back to the DCOME
- Verifies identity of decedent and notifies next of kin
- Processes death scene investigations cooperating with law enforcement agencies in criminal cases and other agencies involved
- Takes inventory of decedent's property and coordination for property protection
- Prepares reports of investigative findings; prepares death certificates, property forms, release forms, evidence inventories and related documents
- Testifies in depositions and court relating to investigative findings
- Other duties as assigned
