This position has rotating 24-hour shifts Monday – Sunday; subject to change.
A probationary period of one year applies to this position.
Responsible for conducting death investigations per Colorado Revised Statutes (C.R.S.) § 30-10-606, including ascertaining the cause and manner of death of individuals that die under the jurisdiction of the office, establishing the identity of the deceased and identifying, locating, and notifying the decedent's next of kin of the death. Investigates death scenes and completes death summary reports. Work is characterized by independent planning and decision making, logical reasoning, and problem solving. Assists with medicolegal investigations, performs forensic autopsies, and transports decedents. This position is part of the Deputy Coroner – Death Scene Investigator career progression series, which includes Deputy Coroner I – Death Scene Investigator and Deputy Coroner II – Death Scene Investigator. An employee is eligible to advance to the next position within the series when the employee has met the criteria for advancement as notated within the job description and has received a recommendation from the Hiring Authority.
