Performs sensitive technical laboratory and investigative work and is responsible for interviewing and research in both office and field settings to determine cause of death based on established policies and procedures. Interacts with local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies, hospitals, family members, funeral home staff and other involved parties. Handles personal protection equipment, biohazard materials, blood-borne pathogens and evidence. Requires knowledge of crime scene procedures, forensic photography, anatomy, anthropology and entomology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Mortuary Science, Medical Technology, Biology or related field; minimum of one (1) year of experience in death investigations/related forensic experience. Equivalencies: Experience in death investigations/related forensic experience AND one of the following:
a. Unrelated Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related experience
b. Related Associate's Degree and three (3) years of related experience
c. Unrelated Associate's Degree and four (4) years of related experience
d. High school/equivalent and five (5) years of related experience
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE WITH: Generating detailed investigative reports; evidence handling/collection/preservation; interview techniques. Also desirable: Knowledge of medical/legal terminology (must specify on application).
